Another week, another rumour starts circulating on Social Media.. this time, it’s that Bananas are not a Free Food at Slimming World, and even worse, that you’ve got to count them as Syns!
Many diets and eating plans discourage bananas but with Food Optimising bananas are Free Food so are perfect for snack attacks and sweet cravings.
Fruits like bananas are slighter higher in energy than say strawberries or melon, and are therefore slighter higher in calories gram for gram – so they’re Free Foods, but not Speed. They’re still super healthy and fab to reach for between meals to lose weight, but if a member wants to really boost their weight loss, a pear or an orange will be a better option than a banana.

Breakfast Ideas: Bananas make brill breakfasts when sliced onto your Healthy Extra allowance of cereal. Branflakes, Shredded Wheat and Weetabix all taste great with banana – add other fruits such as strawberries and blueberries for an even bigger breakfast!
Banana Icecream: It’s so easy to make ice cream – simply blend fat free fromage frais with mashed banana (4 Syns per mashed banana), until smooth. Whisk an egg white until stiff and then fold into the banana mixture using a metal spoon. Spoon into a dish or ice cream maker and freeze – in 4-5 hours you’ve got the perfect chilly treat!
