Mobike is here in Manchester!

The brand new cycle-hire scheme has launched in Manchester. The China-based company Mobike has brought 1,000 bikes to Manchester and Salford as part of major plans to expand across Europe.

The colourful bikes can be found across the city, and in the suburbs (there’s a few dotted around Stretford at the moment!) and can be used for 50p per half hour of use. Registration is completed through the free mobile app, although currently a £30 deposit is required.

“We’re conscious that our city centre is a complex and busy area already, so Transport for Greater Manchester has been working hard to establish a voluntary code of working with Mobike to make sure the service operates in a way that doesn’t inconvenience other road users, pedestrians or city centre traders,” Andy Burnham, Greater Manchester Mayor

The city will be the first outside of Asia, where Mobike already has a presence in over fifty cities. Mobike is a dockless bike scheme, providing an accessible and affordable mode of transport that will help make Manchester healthier, cleaner and more fun to explore.
